Introduction
Standard Urdu, is a South Asian language. It is the national language of Pakistan. It is also an official language of five Indian states and one of the 22 languages in the Constitution of India. Urdu is mutually intelligible with Standard Hindi spoken in India. Both languages share the same base, and are similar in basic structure, grammar and to a large extent vocabulary and phonology. The combined population of Urdu and Standard Hindi speakers is the fourth largest in the world.
