CALAIS CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS (CALAIS FÊTE NOËL)

From December to January.

The Town Hall is the venue for end of year festivities. It is completely refurbished with decorations and models of automated characters showcased by Parisian department stores so as to make way for the magic of Christmas. Other events are organised in all parts of the city.

GIANT DANCE PARTY (DANSE GÉANTE)

Last weekend of June.

Lovers of dance or giggles should get registered at La Danse Geante. All volunteers of Calais are invited to follow the steps and gestures of a choreography created by the schools and associations of local dance. The event brings together 800 participants every year; it brings together a wide audience of all age groups. Choreography is available on the Internet so that you can rehearse at home before the big day. Come and spend an extraordinary moment.

COURGAIN MARITIME FESTIVAL (FÊTE DU COURGAIN MARITIME)

On August 15th, 2014.

You should not miss this traditional festival, if you are in Calais on August 15. The morning session is devoted to meditation. Get into the matelots procession which you will recognise by their traditional dress and sun hat and take a seat in the Courgain church. After mass, you will all head for the port around the rescue monument to pay tribute to sailors who got lost at sea. Then the fishing boats go to sea together so as to throw sheaves and have blessings from the sea. The afternoon session is devoted to festivities such as water jousting, and for the less adventurous, a second-hand shop and Celtic or marine rock concerts are available until nightfall.

GREAT INTERNATIONAL PARADE (GRANDE PARADE INTERNATIONALE)

This great musical parade is held each year. Initially, it brought together between ten and thirteen groups of international musicians as well groups of twenty to one hundred musicians from every horizon. You can particularly listen to guggen (the German and Swiss bands who beat their percussions with masked eyes), military music, watch parades, band shows, and majorette or Tahitian groups. They animate the streets of Calais with the rhythm of their music for a few hours.

MUSSEL FESTIVAL (KERMESSE DE LA MOULE)

First Sunday of September. Catering facilities.

This is the last rendezvous before school resumes! Lovers of mussels-chips and conviviality will sit in a large tent which can accommodate up to 400 people that has been mounted at the beach. Mussels from the region, caught by Myriam, are cooked "in the sailor's way". In the afternoon, you can savour cream pies and dance to the tune of music from an orchestra to end your day. You can make a table reservation at the tourism office during the week that precedes the event.

Inhabitants of Calais and car enthusiasts await this event. With almost 150 vehicles on display and about 9,000 visitors a year, Salon de l'Auto is the perfect place to compare and bargain. All major national and international brands will expose and present their innovations and some will even make you eligible for special offers during the event!

INNOVATION & HOUSING SHOW (SALON DE L'INNOVATION ET DE L'HABITAT)

All the services for the habitat! The event takes place at Forum Gambetta which brings together, for three days, the professionals of the sector (architects, builders, furniture, heating, renewable energy, kitchen design, renovation, financial services, etc..) who will present the latest technologies. This show is also an opportunity for you to discover innovative enterprises of Calaisis that present their new products or processes. An innovation award will be given to the best innovator and several conferences are scheduled. Last year, the event attracted 5,000 people. A great success!

More than 2,000 people gather during the weekend at this tattoo convention that brings together some forty exhibitors, including twenty professional tattoo artists from all over the north of Paris, Belgium and England, and sometimes even farther away! Animations such as lingerie parades, body-painting, concerts etc. make the programme more interesting.

It is the largest video games exhibition and digital entertainment in the north of Paris, on a surface area of 2 000 m² that has been completely transformed for the presentation of the latest innovations in the field. Geeks go there as soon as it opens its doors, followed by amateurs, families and even seniors. From brawl games to fitness or memory games, there is something for all tastes. One hundred video games terminals offers free access to games preview over the weekend. Visitors can compete during a decathlon game where participants can compete publicly in ten different proposals. A good atmosphere is guaranteed with excellent animators and many consoles to be won!

CALAIS ENTERTAINS THE SUMMER (CALAIS ANIME L'ÉTÉ)

From end of June to end of August. Free access and free.

Every day from 2pm until 6: 30pm, the animation team is set up and offers the whole afternoon,quiz, dance, bowling games and other beach games as well as workshops for children. It also offers friendly animations for all age, which is meant to set up a holiday club atmosphere at Calais beach. A multimedia library, a touristic information chalet as well as some stands are added to this fleeting village. The festivities end on August 3th with a free concert at Bassin Ouest. In 2014, the Voca People will close the festivities.

This brilliant Calais violinist, Didier Lockwood, good at classical music, rock and jazz, embraced an international career which is highly acclaimed. He is the programmer of the violins and world music festival that takes place every two years, on the last weekend of May. Worldwide Violinists follow one another on the small and large Calais scenes and play folk, jazz, folklore, world music, etc. It is indeed a great pleasure.

Libertés de séjour is a cultural event that takes place in Channel. For this occasion, the calaisienne structure invites a well selected company of its choice. After the crazy creatures of Claire Danscoisne in 2013, Channel receives in March 2014 other creations inspired of arts.he circus company "Les colporteurs ". Shows, exhibitions, conferences are organised on daily basis.

The festival celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2013! Each year, on the last weekend of November, the Gérard Philipe center draws in blues. During these three days of festivities, the party continue in the cabaret bar located upstairs to accommodate the public and musicians for afters in music. Improvisations are welcomed! On the festive side, a dozen establishments (bars, restaurants, cultural institutions) are mobilized to accomodate groups throughout the month of November.

THE CRITERIUM CYCLISTE RACE

Attention, bike stars from the beginning! The Professional Cycling Criterium gathers each year a small amount of fifty cyclists, known and recognized as champions of good regional cyclists. Organized by the l'Union Vélo Club de Calais, the Criterium sets off again this year for its 29th edition. Riders will start from Wilson Avenue before joining the boulevards Jacquard, Gambetta and the street of November 11. They will make 50 loops of 2 km: we let you calculate the total distance travelled. Fans and cycling enthusiasts, you will find a place where you can pack when the runners are passing.

BOXING GALAS (GALAS DE BOXE)

With two English boxing clubs in the city (ABC Calais and Boxing club Beau-Marais) and a champion of France super-plume (Romain Jacob), several important boxing galas take place each year in Calais with meetings at the highest level! They bring together a large audience. Guaranteed atmosphere. These meetings take place in the Edgar Quinet room (Temple of calaisienne boxing) or the Calypso room.

A gourmet restaurant for foodies and gourmet but also for the curious who wish can take part of spectator in the " parade" ferries... indeed, the view of the port and the coasts British is unique! To taste!

In Aquar' wing, if the panoramic view of the beach is beautiful, the show is also in the dish. Sea bream, butter sauce and algae disputes with cod, sauce with thyme, the place of the best dish. The service is efficient and discreet, the relaxed atmosphere... An excellent choice for a romantic private conversation.

In an exceptional surroundings, an authentic piece of anthology of all Calaisian culinary orchestrated by the Crespo family. Here rigor and quality perpetuate for decades now. The menu consist of mainly fish and changes four times per year and is adapte dto the seasons. Amongst the classic ones, you will however find roasted wild turbot tenderloin, the "petit bateau" sole meuniere, or the langoustine salad with foie gras before the cheese and dessert trolley. Enchanting presentation and impeccable service. In the age of modernism, the establishment managed to have kept a sober, cosy and refined setting. A fine wine list and long selection of over 1,200 references.

He prepares with passion local fishes such as lobster (lobster fricassee with vegetables), turbot, scallops (roasted with mushrooms), etc., but we cannot tell you much for the menu changes with seasons.
