throughout the year. Unlike summative mid-term or final assessments, which measure mastery of subject matter at the end of a term or school year, Benchmark assessments are designed to determine how well students are developing the standards-based skills defined for each grade level. Benchmark assessments provide immediate, on-going feedback that lets teachers and students make necessary changes in the learning process. When they know how students are progressing and where they are challenged, teachers can make appropriate instructional adjustments, such as reteaching, trying other instructional approaches, or offering opportunities for practice. Using the Benchmark Exams module, results are available almost immediately after you administer an assessment. The Benchmark Exams module provides the tools you need to: Create assessments using a variety of available item banks. See the Assessments Guide for more information. Create answer sheets, administer, and score school-wide and district-wide benchmark assessments. Schedule reports, share them with others, and save and share report options. Generate disaggregated or individual reports, based on the results of Benchmark assessments, that display per standard and overall scores. Analyze the validity of assessments and view the responses that students made to each item. Target students for intervention based on benchmark results and customized performance criteria. Create individualized, standards-based instructional materials for students, based on feedback from benchmark results. Introducing Edusoft Benchmark Exams 1 Benchmark Exams About Assessments Edusoft Benchmark assessments are school-wide or district-wide standards-based assessments. Edusoft organizes and stores your benchmark assessments in an Assessment Locker. From here, you can add or remove the folders used to organize assessments, move assessments between folders, and archive assessments that are no longer in use. A: Administrators add assessments to the Benchmarks Assessment Locker in two ways: by creating assessments using Edusoft item banks (see the Creating Assessments chapter in the Assessments Guide), or by aligning your existing assessments—home- grown or purchased—to state standards. Both ways create an answer sheet you can print to use for administering and scoring the assessment. Tests created using Edusoft item banks can also be administered online. Administrators can also define performance bands that will help you analyze student performance on the assessment. See the Assessments Guide for more information about creating, aligning, and administering assessments. About administering and grading assessments Edusoft makes it easy to administer and grade Benchmark assessments. Here’s an overview of the steps involved. These topics are explained in detail in the Assessments Guide. You start by creating a benchmark test, or aligning an existing one to your state’s content standards. You print answer sheets and make enough copies for all students taking the assessment. If another Edusoft user has attached the assessment question document to the aligned assessment, you can download and print the questions as well. You administer the assessment to students and collect their answer sheets. 2 Introducing Edusoft Benchmark Exams Administrator’s Guide You use an Edusoft-approved scanner and the Edusoft Grader software to scan the answer sheets and upload them to Edusoft. You resolve any scanning errors. You can generate reports, do item analysis, create intervention groups, and create customized instructional materials—all based on the results for the assessment. align print administer create Print answer sheets. About administering and grading assessments 3 Benchmark Exams Saving and Sharing Reports The Edusoft benchmark Reports Locker is where you can organize and store scheduled benchmark reports and saved report options in your Reports Locker. From here, you can add or remove the folders used to organize reports or report options, move reports or report options between folders, and archive reports or report options that are no longer in use. Depending on how your district controls access to benchmark reports, there may be some reports or report options that you don’t have access to. Using the Reports Locker, you can view and edit scheduled reports. You can also view and edit saved report options that make it easy for Edusoft users in your district to create standard reports. The Benchmark Reports Locker is a hierarchy of folders used to organize scheduled and saved reports and report options. You can think of the contents of your Reports Locker as folders in a file drawer. Each folder can contain reports or report options and other folders. Folders appear on the left and reports or report options appear on the right. You can create as many nested folders as it takes to organize your reports or report options in a useful way. When you create a report, you can choose to run it immediately or schedule it to run later. As part of the schedule, you can run the same report for others in your district and share it with them. Likewise, you can save and share a set of report options as a shortcut for reports that you run frequently. You store both your scheduled reports and your save report options in your Reports Locker.
