Mai 2004This Ph.D work was done in the framework of the European Graduate College “Interference andQuantum Application” which is a collaboration of the University of Hannover in Germany, theUniversity of Glasgow and the Strathclyde University in Scotland, and the Université Paris SudIX in France. Within the college, a cotutelle agreement between the University of Hannover andthe Université Paris Sud IX was established. While my work was focused on the study ofdifferential optical collisions in the group of J. Grosser in Hannover, the College gave me theopportunity to join the group of A. Aspect for half a year and gain an insight into the fascinatingworld of Bose-Einstein condensation. Although the two subjects might seem to have not much incommon, many experimental and theoretical techniques are similar which was both veryinteresting and instructive to explore.AbstractOptical collisions are studied in a crossed beams experiment.
