He concluded that the only way toexplain those high rotation rates was that the galaxies were much moremassive than estimated because of the existence of invisible, dark matter(or better: dark component).Today, 70 years after Zwicky’s observation, dark matter remains a mys-tery. A host of observational data suggests and supports its existence. Weare quite sure now, that almost 70% of the dark component is not in theform of matter at all but in the form of so-called dark energy instead.
