Mr. Theodore Taylor's book, ManThackeray, the Humourist and the Letters^ wasof admittedly only a stop-gap biography; the volume "eight yearscontributed ago to the Great Writers Series " by Mr. Herman Merivale and Mr. Frank Marzials can be as much morescarcely regarded than outlining the novelist's career while Mrs.; Ritchie's interesting Biographical Introductions are little else thaii material for a full Life. No member of his family has come forward as a chronicler.
