12.2: VisionREZ Default File Paths ................ 241 vi Overview Welcome to VisionREZ The Basics: A Residential Tutorial. VisionREZ is a software program with enhanced solutions and processes that leverages the power of the Building Information Model (BIM) specifically for the residential industry. These processes are designed to enhance intelligence, communication, data flow, and visualization while creating construction documents, bills of materials and renderings. This tutorial is designed to teach you how to use the VisionREZ software tools and, more importantly, to teach you the VisionREZ productivity process. This process will enable you to harness the power of AutoCAD Architecture combined with the focus of VisionREZ in creating your Building Information Model and BIM based construction documents, bill of materials and renderings. By following the processes outlined in this tutorial, you will understand how the VisionREZ tools and processes are designed to work. Feel free to incorporate your own ideas and objects as you see fit. However, VisionREZ objects have been carefully coordinated to react, display and work with each other. We cannot guarantee success when deviating from the recommended processes and guides outlined in this tutorial. Before you begin following the VisionREZ process to create your Building Information Model (BIM) based construction documents and Bill of Materials (BOM), familiarize yourself with the most common VisionREZ tools by navigating through this overview section. VisionREZ Drawing Template Use the VisionREZ icon on your desktop to start VisionREZ. This will launch VisionREZ using the VisionREZ template needed for your tutorial. This template provides the necessary display representations, property set definitions and styles necessary to develop and present the model. VisionREZ The Basics: A Residential Tutorial VisionREZ Tutorial Drawings VisionREZ includes a background drawing from which to begin the first tutorial, Walls. Subsequent tutorials will build on the original model that you created in the Walls tutorial. VisionREZ also includes a series of tutorial drawings that represent the model created through a tutorial. 01 Walls.dwg is an AutoCAD drawing file complete through Chapter 1, the Walls tutorial. Use these drawings if you have not completed the previous tutorial or if you want to start a tutorial with a clean, VisionREZ provided file. To download the tutorial drawings, double click on the VisionREZ Training icon, then click on The Basics: A Residential Tutorial Files. Click on the File.EXE and select Run or Open (depending on your operating system). SECTION 0.1: TUTORIAL INTRODUCTION This VisionREZ residential electronic training tool consists of multiple tutorials designed to teach you how to create a complete Building Information Model and BIM based construction documents using the VisionREZ tools and process. Each tutorial builds on the previous tutorial. The tutorials and associated topics can be referenced as you increase your competence and productivity by reminding you how to most efficiently use the VisionREZ tools and functions. You can begin a drawing and continue building your model through all the tutorials or you can use the VisionREZ provided drawing files to begin each tutorial. Each tutorial contains instructions for both methods. The following icons are used to lead you through the tutorials: Indicates an action to be taken by you. Complete all action statements to successfully complete the tutorials. Indicates something to be aware of or something to be cautious about. Indicates some helpful or interesting information. Indicates functions and features that are standard in AutoCAD Architecture. Indicates functions and features that are unique to the VisionREZ environment. Indicates an Applied Learning section. In these sections, you will be provided with statements telling you what to accomplish but you will not have step-by- step detailed instructions. You will complete the actions using tools you have learned earlier in the tutorial. Most action rows contain a statement indicating what you will accomplish in the step. 8 Overview SECTION 0.2: LAYER RIBBON PANEL AND TOOL PALETTE Accessing the Set Layer functions using the VisionREZ Layer Tools or the Set Layer tab of the Home Tool Palette. VisionREZ layering is automatic by way of Layer Keys. A few items require you to set the layer yourself. Using the Layers on this Fly Out or Tool Palette ensures that they will work in conjunction with the VisionREZ layer toggles. To set the layer, select the Fly Out on the Layer Tools panel or select the Home Icon from the Tool Palettes panel tool bar. Click on the desired option. 9 VisionREZ The Basics: A Residential Tutorial SECTION 0.3: TOOL PALETTE RIBBON PANEL The Tool Palette Ribbon Panel buttons open tool palettes for model creation and documentation. Tool palettes are grouped by like functions to facilitate the model creation and documentation phase. Move your mouse pointer over each button to view a tool tip describing the purpose of the button.
