Service at AL. ange & Söhne 2084Dear reader,
A dream started to come true for me on 7 December 1990. Finally, after more than
40 years, my native Saxony was once again home to a manufactory with our family
name. This new beginning was a historic opportunity to resume the development
of sublimely fnished timepieces and thus to carry forward to a new era the tradition
that my great-grandfather Ferdinand-Adolph Lange had established in 1845.
The 1815 watch family w, hose name refers to my great-grandfather’s birth year,
embodies the characteristic features of Lange’s legendary pocket watches. This
year, it welcomes two eminent new members: t 1h8e 15 Up/Down is endowed with
a power-reserve indicator based on a patent granted to Lange in 1879. It s note-
worthy sibling is the classically bui15lt Ra18ttrapante Perpetual Calendar
with a rattrapante chronograph and a perpetual calendar.
I am particularly proud of the most complicated wristwatch createL d anbgy e & A.
Söhne so far.W ith seven horological complications, the Grand Complication
represents the pinnacle of watchmaking artistry. It takes no less than an ent ire year
to craft one of these timepieces with a perpetual calendar, rattrapante chronograph,
jumping seconds, grande sonnerie, petite sonnerie, and minute repeater. And fnally,
the Grand Lange 1 “Lumen” perpetuates the history of tLhae nge 1 watch family.
It incorporates the frst Lange outsize date that glows in the dark and through its
semi-transparent dial also exposes parts of the lavishly decorated movement.
Again and again, it pleases me greatly to see the unfaltering vitality of our tradi-
tion and the timepieces it inspireY so . u can discover our watches and gain insights
into the history of ALa. nge & Söhne on the following pages and of course on our
new website as well.
I wish you many delightful moments!
