Ideas for Home Automation: Think Outside the Box

We know that 'thinking outside the box' is an old cliché that has lost much of its meaning due to tremendous overuse.
But it is still a phrase that is very applicable to home automation. So much so that the whole concept of DIY home
automation systems is, in and of itself, an out-of-the-box idea. Creating and installing your own home automation
package was virtually unheard of a decade ago.

Be that as it may, most of us understand home automation as a way of scheduling and remotely controlling things like
lighting and thermostats. But the dirty little secret is that just about anything that runs off electricity can be connected to
a modern system if you get the right devices. You can go beyond lighting to include electric window blinds. You can go
beyond electronic door locks with keypads to a system that lets you lock and unlock your doors using your cell phone.
The possibilities are virtually endless.

Automate the Pool Lights

Our first example of thinking outside the box is to control your swimming pool lights automatically. It is already possible
to automate virtually any kind of landscaping feature you can think of, so why not include the pool lights? Have them
turn on just after sunset to provide a very inviting patio environment, and as a safety feature in case any people or
animals wander too closely to the edge of the pool. You can program them to turn off just before bedtime.

Wake up with the Sun

Several of the lighting devices we offer make it possible to create numerous zones in your home that can be programmed
to behave according to the time of day. For example, you could program the lights in your bedroom to turn on at a
particular time in the morning in order to wake you up. Most people would not do that for obvious reasons. But why not
automate the window blinds in the bedroom to allow yourself to gently wake up with the sun?

Uxari Home Automation

Waking up with the sun during the summer months is a great way to get a good start to the day. Have your window
blinds go up just before sunrise and you will wake to beautiful beams of light shining through the window. That beats any
alarm clock on the market!

Turn on the Home Entertainment System

One of the most creative uses of home automation we have heard thus far is tying a lighting scene into a home
entertainment system. Let's assume you have the ability to play music throughout your home using a system you control
remotely with a hand-held unit. That same system can be connected to the lighting system so that it turns on along with
programed lights at the end of the day. Not only will you arrive home to a well-lit house, but music will also be playing as
you walk in the door.

As stated previously, just about anything that runs on electricity can be tied into a home automation system. It's just a
matter of thinking creatively. You can create the automated home of your dreams with the right combination of devices,
control systems, and your imagination.
