As I was running errands today, I thought I would detour into a drive thru restaurant and
pick up a salad (and by salad I mean the lettuce and tomato that sat between a
hamburger patty and the bun). I pulled out my credit card, grabbed my Meal Deal #3,
and sped back out on the road (and by sped I mean went exactly the designated speed
limit).

Can you believe that fast food restaurants have been accepting credit cards now for a
little over 11 years? Before that they accepted only cash, which meant that if you didn’t
have the money, you didn’t get to eat. How many millions of dollars do you think they
lost because they had to turn innumerable patrons away? Now a little over a decade
later, POS systems have continued to make great strides in bringing the customer and
the seller together while not turning away customers over payment snafus.

Mobile POS systems have become the greatest asset to modern day entrepreneurs. It
gives anyone the power to run their business from any location. Vendors who travel to
tradeshows or conferences can make credit card or PayPal transactions. Hair stylists
that rent a space at a salon can monitor client loyalty and send out special discounts.
Food truck owners can track their products and know when to order more of a certain
ingredient. While these mobile entrepreneurs are on the go, they can also take their
point of sale system with them with ease. With just an iPad they can process payments
or pull up their database; no heavy equipment to lug around!

What’s even better about mobile POS software? It’s reliable. For years it seemed like
credit card reader systems would have long wait times or would crash resulting in angry
customers and embarrassed salespeople. It would be even worse at craft fairs,
carnivals, or when repairmen visited customers (remember the old carbon copy paper
that would transfer raised credit card numbers? It was awful if one of those receipts got
into the wrong hands!). With the Internet you can get your POS system set up in
minutes, especially if you implement Vend’s PayPal bundles, which includes a PayPal
card reader, receipt printer and paper, and cash drawer. (And if you consider that
PayPal has over 100 million active consumers around the globe, it definitely is an
investment that can pay for itself.)

When you have a mobile POS system you have your entire database with you. If you
get a lull in customers, you can still put your time to good use. You might want to get an
instant snapshot of sales and staff performance or track inventory from one or many of
your stores. Maybe you just want to relax, but at least you have a choice!
Sometimes your customers come to you and sometimes you need to go to your
customers. In either circumstance, a retail POS system can make all the difference in
the ease of running your company.
