NOTE:
1 OJ. 17.1.97 INTRODUCTION
Following the ratification of the Treaty on European Union THE FRAMEWORK
(EU) all Community activities in the field of research, tech­PROGRAMME IV
nological development and demonstration are covered by the (1994-98)
European Community (EC) Framework Programme for Re­
search and Technological Development (R&TD).
On 26 April 1994, Framework Programme IV was adopted.
It has a duration of five years (1994-98) and a budget of ECU
13.1 billion following the accession to the European Union of
the Austrian Republic, Republic of Finland and the Kingdom
of Sweden (to which an amount of 0.1 billion has been added
in 1996).
Framework Programme IV contains four activities and a
number of specific R&TD programmes which cover the
following areas:
